Instant Rasam Powder

Instant Rasam Powder (Pepper Soup)

A good comfort food when eaten with rice or had as a soup especially when suffering from congestion and cold. This instant mix gives you the versatility to make rasam anywhere in few mins. 

Ingredients:

Tuvar dal -1 cup
Masoor dal -1/4cup
Moong dal -1/4 cup
Tamarind -1/2cup clean and cut into small pieces.
Dhaniya seeds -1&1/4cup
Jeera -1tbsp
Peppercorns -1tbsp
Red chilli spicy -10
Kashmiri chilli -10 -15
Curry leaves 1/2cup dried
Turmeric powder -1tsp.
Kashmiri chili powder -2tbsp
Hing -1tsp
Salt -1tsp or as per taste.

For tempering:

Jeera- 1tbsp
Mustard seeds -1tbsp
Red chili -1-2broken into pieces
Few dry curry leaves.

1) Dry roast the 3 dals first until you get a nice aroma, put that aside. 
2) Dry roast the dhania seeds, jeera & pepper separately and set that aside.
3) Dry roast chilies & curry leaves separately.
4) Dry roast the tamarind until it gets brittle.
5) Add all the above ingredients along with Kashmiri chili powder, Hing, turmeric & salt in a mixer jar and blend it.
6) Dry roast jeera, mustard seeds, chilies & curry leaves and add to the blended mixture as tempering.

To make Rasam:


1) Heat one teaspoon of ghee, when it gets hot add mustard and jeera seeds and let it splutter. Add tomatoes to this and sauté. 
2) Add 2 tablespoon of the rasam mix to 2 cups of water and let it boil. Add the above sauted mixture and heat for couple more mins.

This can be made real fast and a great mix to have when traveling or on any day when lazy to cook.
